South 32: Improvement of the transportation environment of the Mozal aluminum smelter

According to foreign media reports, the Australian mining company South 32 said on Thursday. If truck transport conditions remain stable at the Mozal aluminum smelter in Mozambique, alumina stocks are expected to be rebuilt in the next few days.

Operations were disrupted earlier due to post-election civil unrest, causing road closures and hindering transportation of raw materials.

Earlier this month, the company withdrew its production forecast from its Mozal aluminum smelter in Mozambique over the country’s controversial October election results, which sparked protests from opposition supporters and led to increased violence in the country.

South 32 Said ” In the past few days, road jams have been largely eliminated and we were able to safely transport alumina from the port to Mozal Aluminum.”

The company added that despite the improved situation in Mozambique, South32 warned that potential unrest following the constitutional commission’s December 23 election announcement could disrupt operations again.
