Arconic, an aluminum products manufacturer headquartered in Pittsburgh, has announced that it plans to lay off approximately 163 employees at its Lafayette plant in Indiana due to the closure of the tube mill department. The layoffs will begin on April 4th, but the exact number of affected employees remains unclear.
As a company with significant influence in the materials field, Arconic’s business extensively covers key industries such as aerospace, automotive, and commercial transportation, providing high-performance materials and components to numerous well-known enterprises. The layoff plan at the Lafayette plant this time is due to external market factors and the loss of two important customers, which has led to setbacks in the production of automotive drive shafts.
Regarding this round of layoffs, Arconic stated in a statement that although this difficult decision has been made, it remains optimistic about the long-term prospects of the Lafayette plant and will continue to focus on its employees, the plant, and the local community.
